5. The image was fairly easy to capture. I just walked up to it and saw the shot I needed to get. I had my iso set at 200, and my aperture at 4.5 to get a nice bokeh. I really wanted to get a neat shot with clear composition, and I am strictly against moving things around to get a perfect shot, so I worked with what I had. I loved the shot right out of the camera, but to fulfill the requirements of the assignment, I decided to make a couple of casual edits in bridge. I really think they enhanced and richened the quality and interest of the image.

Weekly Edit | Fine Art Template
This was a really good assignment. I like the way this template features my photos, and I think I will probably use it more often. The edit technique was really simple after doing the case study this weekend.

Weekly Post | Night and Light
Seriously awesome assignment... Seriously. I learned a lot about my camera taking these pictures, because it was foreign territory to me. The top picture was achieved with the help of a handful of friends and classmates painting in light on the barn and tractor. I ran a flashlight as well. The rest were completed last night in Rexburg. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the light. On the car picture, Dan and I tried a few shots where the light was really linear and focused in specific and logical places, but I learned that I liked the graffitti look of the swirling lights. As always, please click to view larger, and enjoy!

Challenge | Hide and Reveal
This one was a fairly easy concept to grasp, I think I just need more practice to get the stripes and circles in the right places . I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I would like to try again in the future on a better picture and do something where the subject is more centered and smaller so that I can get a bigger circle around it.

Weekly Edit | Border Effects
The edits this week were a challenge for me, mostly because I don't particularly like effects. It was a good learning experience though. The brushed on effect was the hardest for me, and probably pushed me the most. The other two were really quite easy because they were right down my alley. I think in the future I would be most likely to use the double fade border. I think the look of it is really nice.

Weekly Post | Scanography
Ok, New favorite thing to do when i'm bored. This project was really interesting. I saw some examples of scanography where the scanner was turned on it's side with objects layered in a mini scene in front of it, so I decided to try it out for my three scan build. I marched out to the back yard and cut a piece of sod right out of the middle of the lawn. :) I brought the sod to the scanner, and using toothpicks, I made a mini garden scene. As I scanned this image, I thought to myself, "Ok this looks like a garden at night. I need a moon." The moon ended up being a golf ball that was borrowed from a neighbor's garden (don't ask me why it was there). and I used shredded grocery bags to create a wispy looking cloud cover. I had a lot of fun creating this image, and I think I'll try to do some more scanography in the future.

Bannack | Besties
So, Here are a few of my other favorite shots from Bannack. Clearly, I like taking pictures of things, rather than places. I have really started to define my photographic style as a result of this trip. I have learned that a big key to nailing a unique shot is opening your eyes. When I really looked around I saw lots of interesting things to shoot.

Bannack | HDR
From this assignment, I mostly learned that I don't care much for HDR photos. I don't like the way they look, and I think that's because I feel like people overdo them. For that reason, I was specifically careful on this assignment to make my HDR images understated. Honestly, I am ok with how they turned out. This was a great learning experience.

Bannack | QEA
I don't know of anyone who succeeded on this portion of the assignment, and I wish I didn't have to post these yucky shots, but here they are in all of their glory. The light was really filtered when we were in Bannack, which made it difficult to capture a lot of difference between the three shots. From this experience, although the difference wasn't that huge, I was able to gain a better understanding of the concept and application.

This was a lot of fun. I didn't end up with a lot of great macros or textures, but of what I did get, these were by far my favorites. I spotted the turned wooden balusters behind some stacks of old doors. They were just tucked back there against a greenish-yellow wall, and with the peeling pink paint, I knew the color contrast would be interesting. I decided not to mask out any of the texture, because I liked what was going on everywhere with the layers and layers of peeling wallpaper.

Bannack | Reverse Shallow Depth
I wish I had put more effort into the reverse shallow depth assignment, because I am not really in love with what I got. It fills the assignment though so I can't complain. I took the shots in the mill. I reversed the focus by focusing first on the nearest rungs of the ladder, and then on the lowest rungs.

Bannack | Action Blur and Freeze
The blur shot was taken on the merry-go-round in front of the school during a stroke of genius. :) It was a challenge because it was a spur of the moment shot, and I didn't have time to change to a smaller lens. I wasn't able to get zoomed out as far as I would have liked, but I did manage to get a fun shot. I got the ghost shot in the big house with the help of my friend Dan. I found that it was easier to capture a sharp image by using a timer to reduce camera shake. The action freeze shot was captured with an uber high shutter speed and a very brave classmate.
